Uganda: Woman Arrested for Killing Own Baby

Tororo — The Police in Tororo district on Monday arrested a woman for allegedly killing a two-month-old baby girl by throwing her down and stepping on her several times.

Lillian Akinyi, 26, a resident of Juba village in Tororo Municipality, reportedly killed the baby after the man she alleges to have impregnated her denied fathering the child.

Akinyi alleges that she last spoke to Fred Komakech, a trader in Busia, when she was seven months pregnant. "Since that time, his phone has been off," she said.

Akinyi is being detained at Tororo Central Police Station.

Tororo district officer in charge of investigations Milton Birungi on Tuesday said they want to ascertain Akinyi's mental state before she can be charged.
