The Central Statistics Agency has announced that the inflation rate fell to a low of 12.9% in the just-ended Ethiopian month of Tahsas (December 2012-January 2013).
This is a drop of 0.7% lower than the rate during the preceding Ethiopian month of Hidar (November/December 2012). According to the Agency, inflation of food items during Tahsas was 11.7%, 1.2 % lower than in the preceding month.
The Agency noted there had been a drop in the price of grains and cereals as the most recent harvest began to reach the markets. The inflation rate of non-food items, however, was rated at 14.7%. This showed a small increase of 0.7% over the preceding Ethiopian month
