Kenya: Child Abusers Risk Jail Terms

Child abusers in Butere/Khwisero put on notice. A former Samia District Children's Officer, Dishon Otuko, who has been moved to Butere/Khwisero district, has warned children abusers that they risk facing the full force of the law.

Talking in Busia town yesterday, Otuko pledged to ruthlessly deal with parents who neglect and fail to take children. He said such victims ended up hawking in streets or engaging in child labour instead of learning.

"The Government will take stern action against parents who children to engage in hawking, sale of scrap metal or attend video shows instead of enrolling in schools for a better future," said Otuko. He warned that those who misuse resources meant for orphaned and vulnerable children will be prosecuted.
