Uganda: Cranes Win USPA December Award

On Monday, members of the Uganda Sports Press Association (Uspa) meeting at the Lugogo tennis complex voted the Uganda Cranes as winners of the December Uspa award. The team had bagged the Cecafa Tusker cup.

Swalleh Kenyi, the Uspa general secretary, announced that The Cranes would be handed their award this Friday at the same venue. Uspa also announced that the annual awards gala night, where the best sports personalities for every sporting discipline in 2012 will be rewarded courtesy of Nile Special, would take place on January 19.

At this year's gala night, marathoner Stephen Kiprotich, Uganda's gold medallist at the 2012 London Olympics, is widely expected to win the award for the sports personality of the year 2012. Kiprotich will be following in the footsteps of another athlete, Moses Kipsiro who won the overall award in 2006 and 2007.
