Rwanda: Only Financial Constraints an Impediment, Says Kayiranga

SC Kiyovu coach Jean Baptist Kayiranga has admitted that only financial problems would deny the team from winning the national league this season, the first in 20 years.

The 'Greens Baggies' lead the 14-team table standing at 25 points, one better than second-placed AS Kigali and two ahead of reigning champions APR FC after 12 rounds of matches.

However, Kayiranga says he needs to add two new players during the January transfer window but fears financial constraints could shatter his dream of guiding the team to a first title since 1993.

SC Kiyovu maintained their impressive assault on the league title with a 2-1 win over AS Muhanga in mid week.

"I need to add two new players to the team this month but I'm afraid that might not be possible because of lack of finances. If the club can find money to sign the two players that I have identified, we have a big chance to (win the league)," Kayiranga told Times Sport after Wednesday's match.

He added, "At this stage, we are capable of winning the league but we need to strengthen the team in key positions. However, if we don't get the players we need, we shall use the squad available to us."

Kiyovu had veteran striker Bokota Kamana to thank for his 67th minute strike which earned them a 2-0 victory.

Rising star Mhadjili Hakizimana, opened the scoring for Kiyovu from the spot kick after skipper Eric Serugaba was brought down.

AS Kigali won 2-0 away against Marines FC to remain second on the table standing with 24 points. Laudit Mavugo and Jimmy Mbaraga were on target for this season's surprise package.

APR jumped into the third position with a 2-0 win over La Jeunesse, thanks to goals from Maxime Sekamana and Tumaine 'Titi' Ntamuhanga.

Police FC is in fourth position, with a game in hand, after beating Amagaju 3-0. The goals were scored by peter Kagabo, Ernest Kwizera and Jacques Tuyisenge. Rayon Sport complete top five after coming from behind to beat Musanze 3-2 with goals for Kambale Salite, Iddi Nshimiyimana and Faudi Ndayisenga. Rodriquez Murengezi scored twice for Musanze FC.
