Tanzania: Region Repatriates 301 Aliens, Says Official

Bukoba — ABOUT 301 aliens were repatriated to their countries of origin from Kagera Region during 2012.

A Senior Immigration Officer, Idd Shomari said out of the number, 207 were Burundians, 14 Ugandans, 77 from Rwanda, two others from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and one from Kenya.

He said in 2011, a total of 310 aliens were repatriated while 34,953 foreigners were found hiding in different villages. Out of the number, 15,786 were Rwandese, 12,619 Ugandans and 6,548 Burundians.

He said the region had appealed for enough funds from the government to conduct an operation and repatriate the remaining aliens who pose a security risk as some of them entered the country with large numbers of unvaccinated livestock.
