Nigeria: Bayelsa - Ex-CNPP Boss Berates Dickson Over Empty Treasury Claim

The immediate past Chairman of the Conference of Nigerian Political Parties (CNPP) in Bayelsa State, Comrade Sunday Frank-Oputu yesterday described as "misleading" and "shameful lie" the allegation by the State Governor, Hon. Seriake Dickson that only N4,451 was left behind by the former administration of Timipre Sylva.

Comrade Sunday Frank-Oputu, said though Governor Seriake Dickson as a lawyer and the Chief Accounting Officer of the State is in a better position to give facts and figures on state funds and spending, the claims that Governor Sylva handed over the sum of N4,451 had shown that the present administration in the state lacked credibility and proper accounting needed for the development of the state.

Frank-Oputu, who led the CNPP in Bayelsa State for six years, told LEADERSHIP yesterday in Yenagoa ,that the alleged money was not an amount left behind by the former administration but monies rendered in a hand-over note by the former Accountant -General of the state, Mr. Francis Okokoro as the amount left in the Treasury Office steel-box.

Frank-Oputu said, "the claims of N4,451 is a useless one that has embarrassed all indigenes of the state and the Dickson administration should tender unreserved apology. If Sylva did not hand over to Dickson, how come he handed over such money?

"When Sylva was illegally removed, the Speaker of the State Assembly, Nestor Binabo took over. Nestor Binabo conducted the kangaroo elections that ushered Dickson into office. That same administration received two months allocations and handed over N3.7billion to Dickson".
