Nigeria: Uduaghan Vows to Pull Down Buildings Without Valid Permit

Asaba — HENCEFORTH, any building commenced in any part of Delta State without a valid building permit from relevant organs of government will be pulled down without notice, the state governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, has warned.

The order, according to him, takes immediate effect.

The governor similarly warned that any government official found wanting in the issuance of building permit would be sanctioned, adding that issuance of Certificate of Occupancy, C of O, should not exceed two months.

Governor Uduaghan, during the State Economic Dashboard meeting, said these were part of measures to sanitize the system, lamenting that indiscriminate erection of buildings without valid permits was responsible for the uncontrolled urbanization, flooding and sanitation challenges faced in most towns and cities across the state.

He said: "Beginning from now, if a building is started without a building approval or permit, the building will be pulled down. An approval must be obtained from the Ministry of Lands before the construction of any building is commenced."
