Zimbabwe: Council Property to Go Under the Hammer

Masvingo City Council's attached properties will be auctioned on January 16 despite the local authority's bid to stop the auction. An advertisement advising the auction was placed in The Herald yesterday indicating that the property would be auctioned next week.

According to the advertisement, the Deputy Sheriff sale would take place at 46 Robertson Street and municipal workshops in the country's oldest city.

"Sale in execution dully instructed by Deputy Sheriff.

"We shall sell the following vehicles to highest bidder by public auction on Wednesday, 16 January at 10 am, at our premises," reads part of the advertisement.

The workers late last year got a High Court green light to auction council property to settle a US$3,5 million debt in unpaid salary arrears.
