The Comptroller, Nigeria Customs Service, Federal Operation Unit, (FOU) Zone C, Owerri, Mohammed M. Biu, yesterday disclosed that the zone recorded 55 seizures worth N1.5 billion between January and December 2012.

Biu disclosed this yesterday in his office in Owerri while reacting to the three awards presented to him by the publisher Lagos Network Newspapers, Mr. Otumba Gbenga.

He said that in the month of September alone, the command recorded 15 seizures which were the highest in the year while in October, November and December it recorded nine, four and three siezures respectively.

He said that January this year would be observed as month of consolidation and a breathing space for the travelers and businessmen but emphasized that by February the command would go into fullscale seizures.

The comptroller said that since assumption of duty, the zone has being sanitized of all forms of corrupt activities, adding that days when officers were accused of such act are over.

He recalled that before his arrival, the zone had being inundated with barrage of petitions especially on corrupt practices of officers, adding that such act are no longer in place in the zone.

The comptroller described the award as challenging as it will motivate the zone into doing better for the upliftment of the country.
