Nigeria: Akpabio - PDP Governors Satisfied With Tukur

Seventeen governors of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) have given a vote of confidence to the National Executive Council of the party, expressing optimism that the style of leadership of its current chairman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur will carry it far into the future.

The governors met with President Goodluck Jonathan, Vice President Muhammad Namdi Sambo and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Anyim Pius Anyim. a day after the president met with members of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the ruling party to save the job of Tukur who has an outstanding issue with the governors for his decision to sack the executive council of the party in Adamawa State.

The meeting which lasted for about three hours is the second of its type. The first was held in December, 2012.

Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom, who spoke with State House Correspondents after the meeting concurred to reports that there are disputes threatening to tear the party apart. But he said it has in-built mechanism to overcome the obstacles it is currently facing.
