Zambia: Nine Die in Kapiri Road Horror

NINE people have died on the spot in Kapiri Mposhi in a road traffic accident involving a Marcopolo bus and a Toyota Hiace mini-bus leaving seven with serious injuries.

Police spokesperson Elizabeth Kanjela said all the dead were from the Hiace mini-bus and no injuries or deaths were recorded on the Marcopolo bus.

Police and Kapiri Mposhi Hospital personnel rushed to the scene to attend to the injured and take them to the hospital along with the dead. The seven had been admitted to Kapiri Mposhi District Hospital for treatment.

In an interview yesterday, Police spokesperson Elizabeth Kanjela confirmed the accident which happened around 15:00 when the driver of the Hiace mini-bus tried to overtake a Rosa Mini-bus but encountered a head-on-collision with the oncoming Marcopolo bus.

The mini-bus is registered ACM 2334 and was travelling from Kapiri Mposhi to Ndola, while the Marcopolo Scania bus was registered ABG 7403 and was heading to Kapiri Mposhi from Ndola.
