Former Green Eagles goalkeeper, Emmanuel Okala, has hailed the Super Eagles list for the 29th Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) released by Coach Stephen Keshi on Wednesday night. Okala, in an interview in Awka, commended the list of players for the competition holding in South Africa from Jan. 19 to Feb. 10.
He said it was a good development that home-based payers were getting attention as their foreign-based counterparts, adding that it was a good omen for the local league. Okala said that players on the list were selected based on their current form.
"I am particularly happy with the list, especially the inclusion of home-based players; it shows that players do not need to play abroad before getting attention.
"The team is based on the current form of the players; there is no sentiment and I believe they will go far in the tournament," he said.
Okala appealed to the team to be focused to enable the coach concentrate and perfect his plans. The former Africa Cup of Nations winner urged the players who would feature in the 2013 tournament in South Africa for the first time to make good use of the opportunity.
"It is good that they are appearing for the first time; I encourage them to embrace the opportunity and do themselves and the nation proud," he added. (NAN)
