Nigeria: Sokoto Spends N1 Billion On Scholarship

Sokoto — The Sokoto State government says it spent over N1 billion on students' scholarship last year.

Executive Chairman of the State Scholarship Board Abdulkadir Jelani Kalgo disclosed this yesterday while reviewing activities of the board in 2012.

He said N423m was spent on the settlement of tuition, registration, accommodation, air tickets and upkeep allowances of overseas programme sponsored students in United States of America, United Kingdom and N580m on educational support to fresh and returning domestic students.

He said N120m was given to Usmanu Danfodiyo University for "the online registration needs in respect of the 4,679 state students".
