Kenya: Wekesa Roots for 'Selfless' Raila

11 January 2013

Forestry minister Noah Wekesa yesterday asked Kwanza residents to honour Raila Odinga's detention by electing him president. Speaking at Namanjalala in Kwanza, Wekesa said Raila was detained for nine years because of his bid to liberate the country.

"Nelson Mandela was detained for long and he was elected president of South Africa. In Africa, it is necessary for one to be elected president after detentionand Raila is no exception," he said. Wekesa, who is eyeing the Trans Nzoia governor's seat, termed Raila a selfless leader.
