East Jebel Marra — At least 10 civilians were killed after a government Antonov airplane shelled the area of Dresa, north-east of East Jebel Marra, North Darfur, on Friday, 11 January.

Mustafa Tambour, military spokesman of the Sudan Liberation Movement-Abdel Wahid (SLM-AW), added to Radio Dabanga that several people were wounded, livestock were killed and homes were destroyed.

The bombardments lasted for over one hour and afterwards the government airplane flew to the Jildu area, West Jebel Marra in Central Darfur, the spokesman affirmed.

More than 38 bombs were dropped in the region "entirely burning" a school and six homes, according to Tambour.

He added that frightened residents sought shelter around valleys and behind stones.

Chadian troops

The rebel's spokesman reported that Sudanese government forces recruited Chadian troops to fight with them against the SLM-AW in West Jebel Marra.

According to him, these troops are currently stationed in west Jildu and in Golo, "waiting to attack" rebels' bases in these two places.

Tambour warned the Chadian troops that by joining operations with the Sudanese army, they are interfering in the country's internal affairs and will be "treated with no distinction" by the SLM-AW.
