Nigeria: Police Avert Jailbreak in Zamfara

Gusau — Police yesterday stormed the Gusau Medium Security prison after news of possible jail break filtered in Gusau the capital of Zamfara State.

Rumours of the jail break circulated around 1:00pm and the presence of security personnel in and around the prison might have forestalled any such occurrence in the prison.

Pressmen and members of the public were not allowed into the area as it was cordoned off by the security agents in order to ascertain if any inmate escaped.

Witnesses told Sunday Trust that they saw several vehicles packed with security agents advancing towards the area and the neighbouring villages.

Sources told our reporter that a fight broke out during a misunderstanding between the prison inmates.

All efforts to hear from the prison officials proved abortive as all their phones were switched off.
