The House of People's Representative endorsed a draft bill on a loan agreement signed between Ethiopia and the International Development Association (IDA) amounting to 415 million Br for a road development project, last week. The financing obtained from IDA is expected to help Ethiopia to achieve the road component goal of the Growth and Transformation Plan (GTP).

The government's Growth and Transformation Plan has given high priority for developing the infrastructure of roads. It has projected to increase the federal and regional length of roads to 64,522Km from the 49,000Km in 2009/10.

Currently, The total road network has grown by some 22,243Km to 53,143Km, of which close to 60pc is now in good condition.
