Kenya: Parents Angry Over Transfer

Learning at Gituamba Primary School in Laikipia West was yesterday paralysed as parents protested over the transfer of its school head.

The head teacher has been transferred to Gatirima Primary School.

The parents withdrew their children from the school before taking to the streets demanding his reinstatement.

Carrying twigs and placards, they said the head teacher had played a big role in improving the school performance.

'We will not allow him to be taken to another school without first completing the development projects that he had initiated. The ministry should have consulted us before transferring him," said Gituamba ward councilor Kamakil Kamanga who led the demonstration.

He said that the school head who had been transferred to the school had been chased away from his former school after he failed to perform.

The parents have since vowed not to take their children to the school until the matter was resolved and the decision reversed.
