Nigeria: My Secret Life - Asma Kusherki, Fashion Designer, 32

My parents are... my mum is down-to-the-earth, very understanding and liberal. My dad is late. He was a very courageous man. He was very charismatic. My parents put us on the right track early.

The household I grew up in... I grew up in a home where the closeness as a family was to the extreme. We care so much and help each other in every situation. Our dad instilled unity in us.

Let me be honest with you... I don't think I had a dream of what I wanted to become when I was a child. I am one of those people that move with the flow.

The childhood memory I cherish... we played outside a lot. I knew all our neighbour's children because I'm a very friendly person. I had friends from different backgrounds. Then, my school [Jabi Primary School] was the only primary school in Abuja. We all attended the same primary school irrespective of our status in the society.

If I had a second chance... I wish I left Nigeria earlier and came back earlier.

You can call it my strength... Being there for people and being an inspiration to them.

Please don't get me wrong... I sleep too much in the morning because I go to bed late.

The craziest thing I've ever done... Risking my life to drive when I did not know how to drive. I just move the car because I knew I had to get to my destination.

Looking at the pictures... I wouldn't want to change anything because that was what I considered as fashion at that time.

Fashion to me is... what I see; what I feel. Even in my little village, I see a lot of fashion. Fashion is not necessarily how people put on their cloth; because wearing cloth is style. Fashion is what I see every day and I'm surrounded by it.

You may need to know... Kanan from my business name KanaNDesigns was coined from my name (Nana K) written backwards by a friend - Faizah.

I'm a 'big reader'... the book that changed me was a book by Steve Harvey titled 'Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man'. It changed my attitude towards relationships; I never paid attention to that until I read that book.

I'm a movie freak... l like movies by Tyler Perry because they give you insights about what happens in our everyday life.

Yes, call it my wish... Five years from now, I wish to be bigger than what I am today. I want to take KanaNDesigns to a whole new level. I want to take my time to get it right. Five years from now, you will be hearing more about KanaNDesigns.

Looking at the mirror... I see my dad in me. He was a very confident, charismatic and open-minded man. He did not judge people based on other people's perception. He allowed you to be yourself.

Hmmm... I'm not married but let's leave it that way.

My life in five words... very curious and ready-to-learn person.
