Nigeria: ThisDay Awards Releases Process for Nomination of Outstanding Teachers

In line with the 18th edition of the THISDAY Annual Awards to honour teachers, who have distinguished themselves at the primary, secondary and tertiary levels, the THISDAY Board of Editors Sunday released the process for the nomination of teachers who shall be honoured at the awards ceremony on a date to be announced soon.

In a statement released by the board, members of the public and readers are invited to send the names of outstanding and deserving teachers by visiting www.thisdayawards.com/nomination and stating why the teacher deserves to be honoured.

The statement added: "Following the collation of nominees, each of them will be screened by a selection committee of THISDAY editors and eminent Nigeria, which shall be published.

"After the publication, a THISDAY Reader Panel of registered readers will then vote on winners who will be honoured in an awards ceremony to be attended by world leaders and distinguished Nigerians on the sidelines of a summit on transforming education in Nigeria."

The Board of Editors called on readers interested in joining the Reader Panel, which will select winners for the Best Teachers Awards to visit and register at www.thisdayawards.com/readerpanel

The board said all THISDAY readers are welcome to submit their nominees and join the Reader Panel, adding that nominations for the submission of entries will open at noon today and close at midnight on January 31, 2013.

The decision to honour teachers, who have excelled across Nigeria, was informed by the critical role that they play in human capital development and the socio-cultural and economic advancement of the country.

"We need teachers to rebuild education, our communities and our nation. We must therefore celebrate and honour them," the board said.
