South Africa: Mpumalanga Crash Claims Seven People

Pretoria — At least seven people died when a mini-bus they were travelling in overturned following a tyre burst on the R23 road outside Balfour in Mpumalanga in the early hours of Monday morning.

Spokesperson for the Mpumalanga Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Moeti Mmusi said the horrific accident happened at about 4:30am.

Mmusi said the driver lost control of the vehicle following a tyre burst while travelling from the direction of Heidelberg towards Balfour.

"Nine people were seriously injured and they were rushed to both Heidelberg and Balfour hospitals."

Community Safety, Security and Liaison MEC Vusi Shongwe has sent condolences to the bereaved families and further wished those who were injured a speedy recovery.
