Kenya: Karau to Announce Running Mate Today

NARC-Kenya party leader Martha Karua is expected to announce her running mate for the presidential race this afternoon.

The Gichugu MP said through her official twitter page, "I will be making an unprecedented announcement today that sets a new standard of leadership for the greater Kenya we all hope for!"

Karua's announcement of her running mate will be the fourth among the major presidential candidates after the Jubilee's Ruto and Cord's Musyoka had been earlier announced.

Last week presidential candidate on a RBK ticket James Ole Kiyiapi announced former Kenya Private Sector Alliance chairperson Winnie Kaburu Kinyua as his running mate.

Musalia Mudavadi vying for the presidency on the Amani coalition ticket is yet to announce his running mate. The Eagle alliance under Peter Kenneth and Raphael Tuju has also not announced the running mate.

Karua's announcement will also be coming at a time when political parties and alliances will be preparing their final list of nominees to various positions ahead of the January 17 primaries and January 18 deadline for handing in of the nominees to the IEBC.

Karua has dismissed the recent Infotrack opinion polls released last week. The poll rated Karua second to last among the presidential candidates with only 0.3 per cent of respondents saying they would vote for her.

She accused the pollsters of being corrupt and being used by her opponents in an attempt the stifle her presidential ambitions.
