Tunisia: President Marzouki Undertakes Consultations On Creation of HAICA

Carthage — Caretaker President Moncef Marzouki, Saturday, discussed with representatives of the National Authority for Information and Communication Reform (NAICR) the creation of the High Independent Authority of Audio-visual Communication (HAICA).

The meeting with representatives of the NAICR, which had announced its dissolution last July 4, focused on the creation of the HAICA and the criteria used for the selection of the president and members of the authority, said a Presidency statement.

NAICR President Kamel Laabidi described the meeting as "positive," saying it followed up on mechanisms for the creation of the HAICA and criteria use to select its members in accordance of Decree-law N°116, added the same source.

He emphasised the need to announce the creation of the HAICA in the shortest possible time so that it would be a "regulatory structure that contributes to the promotion of the audiovisual sector and guarantees to Tunisians professional and independent media."
