Ethiopian Roads Authority (ERA) announced last week that it gave 14 road projects worth 11.5 billion Br to contractors in the last six months of the current fiscal year. Out of the total road projects four were given to local contractors while the rest were allocated to foreign contractors.

In December 2012, ERA awarded a 1.1 billion Br contract, for two local construction companies, Gemshu Beyene Construction Company (GBCC) and Leul Yohannes Construction Company. The contract is for the construction of a 47Km road, in Amhara Regional State, and a 23Km road, in Afar Regional State.

Close to 65pc of the total project coast will be finance by the government while the balance will come from the African Development Bank (AfDB)
