Eritrea: Farmers in Metkel-Abet Call For Renovation of Water Canal

Ginda — Farmers in Metkel-Abet Administrative area, Ginda sub-zone, have called for machinery support so as to facilitate the renovation of water diversion canal which was damaged recently by floods due to heavy rainfall.

They further indicated that they had renovated the diversion canal at an expenditure of 500,000 Nakfa before the natural disaster struck causing major quandaries in the farming process.

Among the farmers, Mr. Osman Seid, Mr. Husein Edris-Ali and Mr. Mahmoud Jabir explained that they have been integrating their resources in maintaining the available diversion canals with a view to obtaining bumper harvest, and said that the current damage could be maintained through machinery support only.

Mr. Osman Mohammed-Ali, Administrator of Metkel-Abet Administrative area, pointed out that the harm gave rise to the endangering of farms in a total of 380 hectares.
