Gambia: Sanchaba United Crowned Lamin League Champions

Sanchaba United were crowned champions of the Kombo Lamin Nawettan League competition following a 3-0 demolition of heavyweights Jatta's FC in a game played at the Lamin village playing ground at the weekend.

Sanchaba United made their intentions known as early as the 6th minute when they came close to opening the scorings but the chance went begging and it took Jatta's until the 16th minute to carve out their first opportunity, their only meaningful attempt on goal in a dull first half that ended in a goalless stalemate.

It took Sanchaba just two minutes after the restart to break the deadlock when a combination of play from skipper Lamin Sanyang and Alieu released Abdou Nyang who nodded home from close range in the 42nd minute.

Sanchaba increased their lead in the 70th minute when John Gomez scored and he made sure of the 3-0 triumph seven minutes later when he scored from the penalty spot for the emphatic win.

As winners, Sanchaba United went home with a giant trophy and a cash prize of D20,000 while Jatta's got a consolation prize of D15,000 for finishing as runners up. Lamin Fofana of Sanchaba United finished top of the scoring chart with five strikes and was given D500.
