Libya: Nation Considers Diplomatic Protection Force

Libya may create a new special security force to protect diplomats, Libya Herald reported on Monday (January 14th).

The move comes in the wake of a failed assassination attempt against Italian Consul-General Guido de Sanctis in Benghazi on Saturday. The incident is a series of attacks on foreign diplomats.

US ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other US officials died in the September attack on the US consulate in Benghazi. Last June, a rocket-propelled grenade struck a convoy carrying the British Ambassador to Libya, wounding two bodyguards.
