Date for the signature of a contract agreement to sponsor the Gambia Football Association domestic league has been put off, Foroyaa Sports can understand.
The two parties -Gamtel/Gamcel and the Gambia Football Association -were set to put the final touches to a rare partnership agreement for the Sponsorship of the Gambian premier league Saturday evening, but a deal could not be brokered amid shortcomings.
Officials from the GSM operator did not show up to finalise the transactions slated at the FA Kanifing headquarters - a hotcake issue that dominated Newspaper headlines the entire last week.
"The conference has been cancelled, the officials did not come" Bakary B Baldeh GFA media liaison officer disclosed to Foroyaa Sports. The meeting is set to be rescheduled this week again, it is said, but that the contract however may still hit a snag with the Normalisation Committee Vice chairman Omar Sey to travel to South Africa.
Start of the 2013 league championship has been deferred as a result of sponsorship matters. Outcome of the meeting is to be communicated to clubs and affiliates of GFA shortly after the meeting via a dispatch, a source part of the talks disclosed, under anonymity.
The league was set to officially tee off 28th December before it was pushed to January 5th after a behind-closed-door session among delegates and later unanimously fixed for January 19th.
Should a deal be penned, it is to benefit all parties within the Gambian football circle, the Normalisation Committee says.
