Basse — West Coast Region have emerged champions of the tenth edition of the 2012 NaYCONF football competition after defeating hosts CRR in a post-match penalty shoot-out.
Both sides came in into the game poised to carry the day, though none could produce a serious threat in the early minutes of the encounter. In the 29th minute, a West Coast Region striker temporally silenced the home fans following his shot which the central referee had registered as goal only for the assistant referee to claim otherwise, a decision the central referee eventually went by.
Speaking to Observer Sports, the assistant coach of WCR, Lamin Anthony Ceesay, hailed his team. His words: "Winning the 2012 NaYCONF means a lot to me and WCR as a whole because we never won it since I started coaching. It is not a surprise to me winning the title as Brikama United won the zonal championship, so we had to do the same."
