Egypt: Qandil Follows Up Badrashin's Train Accident

Prime Minister Hisham Qandil follows up on Tuesday morning 15/1/2013 the impact of the Badrashin's train accident that took place on Tuesday morning.

Qandil gave instructions to the officials to take immediate steps to provide all the requirements necessary to rescue the train passengers and provide full care for them.

A carriage in a train carrying hundreds of conscripts derails in Upper Egypt leaving at least 19 dead and more than 107 injured, Transportation Minister Hatem Abdel-Latif said.

"We have to admit that the railway system is decaying. We will carry out investigations to know whether the accident happened because of defects in the train or rails or because of other reasons," Transportation Minister Hatem Abdel-Latif said.

Hussein Zakareya, head of Egypt's Railway Authority, said the derailed carriage hit another cargo train after it went off the rails.
