The Member of Parliament (MP) for Mfantseman, Mr. Aquinas Tawiah Quansah, has urged the National Democratic Congress supporters to remain calm in spite of the challenge by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) over the electoral verdict.

In a statement to the press, the MP said the filing of petition in the Supreme Court by the leadership of the NPP and by Mr. Stephen Asamoah-Boateng, NPP parliamentary candidate for Mfantseman, at the Cape Coast High Court, challenging the parliamentary results in the constituency would all be exercises in futility.

Mr. Quansah said all the court cases being pursued by NPP were ploys to discredit the biometric voting system to compel the court to scrap it, and that the NPP was aware that with the biometric system in place, they would not win any election outside their strong hold areas, as no one would be able to vote in multiples.

Mr. Quansah described the 2012 election as the most free, fair and transparent election ever conducted in Ghana since 1992.

On allegation that people voted in some polling stations without biometric verification, Mr. Quansah wanted to know from Mr. Asamoah-Boateng how he managed to know all those who voted for him (Quansah).

He said the Electoral Commission recorded 31,748 for him (Quansah) as against 29,436 for Mr. Asamoah-Boateng, and pointed out that the difference of 2,312 was too large a number to be challenged. GNA
