Uganda: IGP Clarifies On Lyomoki's Arrest

Lt Gen Kale Kayihura, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) has come up to clarify the reason as to why police moved swiftly to arrest Dr Sam Lyomoki the workers' MP on Tuesday.

He says, "Lyomoki is to assist with the ongoing investigations about his conduct and utterances made at Butunga town council in Butaleja district on Dec 23, 2012."

Lt Gen Kayihura while addressing journalists at Media centre on Tuesday morning added that, "Lyomoki's failed to honor Police summons issued on Jan 7, 2013 which required that he appears before the Commandant Special Investigations Unit, Kireka on Monday Jan 14."

"Lyomoki knowingly refused to report prompting his arrest by Police today," says Lt Gen Kayihura.

He says Uganda Police reminds all members of the public that they are required by the law to adhere to all lawful orders of police in pursuance of an orderly society.
