The post-election dance production by visiting dance group, Tripe en mass will premiere tomorrow at the Sarakasi Dome in Nairobi. The Dutch ambassador to Kenya, Joost Reintjes, will attend the opening.
This month the three choreographers of 'Trip en masse', visited Kenya to work with nine Kenyan dancers in Nairobi to adapt 'Trip en masse' and incorporate elements of the Kenya post-election crisis. This resulted in a non-political dance show called 'Trip en mass Kenya'.
According to the organisers, the dance routine 'consists of familiar images of mass-hysteria and fanaticism: clenched fists, arms crying for help, hands that reach for the head or imaginary wounds. These are images we know from TV news: conflict, football stadiums and mass protests'. Then on Saturday the troupe will be at the Fisherman's Camp where they will also perform.
