Eritrea: Gash-Barka Region - Ministry Launches Livestock Vaccination Program

Barentu — The Agriculture Ministry's branch in Gash-Barka region is conducting extensive livestock vaccination campaign region-wide targeting external and internal parasites.

Dr. Tekhlezgi Tekie, head of animal health in the region, explained that the campaign, which got underway since the first week of January, is a continuation of those regularly carried out before and after the rainy season. He further indicated that adequate preparation was made to this end, and that the process has gained momentum.

Accordingly, a total of 500,000 livestock are due to be vaccinated within 40 working days through the dispatching of 5 veterinary crews. Moreover, the program is expected to make positive impact in sustaining the attained level of meat and dairy production.

Farmers should judiciously utilize the free vaccination service being rendered at full government expenditure, and collaborate with the members of the crews, Dr. Tekhlezgi added.
