Kenya: Mckenzie Enthroned As Motor Sport Boss

Nairobi — Interim chief and Mombasa-based Roy McKenzie has been elected the new chair of Kenya Motor Sport Federation (KMSF) following a Special General Meeting held in Nairobi on Tuesday.

McKenzie who chaired the five man Interim Committee- mandated to run motor sports operations during last month's AGM- promised to steer the Federation to greater heights and in a more transparent and accountable manner.

"Today was the inauguration of club member nominees of the Board of Directors of KMSF. As we have been saying over the past few months, it's taken a while to get here but clubs who are the shareholders are now sitting as Directors of KMSF.

"What it means for the KMSF and the motor sports clubs in Kenya is that there will be improved communication between the Federation and shareholders which will invigorate them and the federation. Problems solving will become more realistic and broader between all the groups," McKenzie stated upon election.

The Meeting also appointed new commission heads and mandated them to immediately constitute a list of members they will work with during the season which starts this weekend with the National Motocross Championship.

The Motorcycle, Rallies, Autocross and Rally Raid commissions will be headed by Maina Muturi of East African Motor Sports Club (EAMSC), Ashok Bhalla, James Burke and Simon Sharpe who retained his portfolio in that order.

Ashok who has chaired the Rallies Commission previously replaces Abdul Sidi, while Burke takes over from Antony Colin as Maina fills the void left behind by Anthony Nielsen.

"Issues are now going to be resolved by the vote, we have a chairperson at the KMSF, and that all decisions we made today were made by 11 people, and that's the new policy that we are determined to move forward," added McKenzie.

Directors nominated to the Board will be Jim Kahumbura of Kenya Motor Sports Club, Renzo Bernardi of EAMSC, Rob Collinge of Rift Valley Motor & Sports Club (RVMSC), Dave Macharia from Rallye Sports Club (RSC), Bob Dewer of Alfa Romeo Owners Club and Dali Kalsi (Sikh Union Nairobi).

Surinder Thatthi (East African Safari Rally), Bimal Patel (Nanyuki Rally Group) and Kisumu's Equator Motor Club (EMC) nominated Rajbir Chatthe complete the board.
