SIMBA'S Ugandan striker Emmanuel Okwi has left the club and signed for Tunisia giants Etoile du Sahel for a 300,000 US dollar (about 450m/-) transfer deal.
The Msimbazi Street club Chairman of the Players Registration Committee, Zacharia Hans Poppe was quoted late in the evening yesterday by local blogs as saying that a deal has been agreed between the three parties--Simba, Okwi and Etoile du Sahel.
It is claimed that Okwi has scooped a staggering 100,000 US dollar (about 150m/-) signing fee but his salary would not immediately be made public. Hans Poppe said the Uganda Cranes sensational striker has passed medical test and everything has been settled for the transfer to be formalized "We will send our club officials to Tunis, Tunisia to conclude the deal," he said.
Okwi's name has been struck off the Simba SC list of players headed to Oman for further mid-season training. The player failed to rejoin the team in training after leaving for the December break and efforts by the team's officials to contact him have been futile as his phone keeps going unanswered.
It was not well stomached by club officials, who decided to remove the ace striker from their Oman plans "We cannot keep on wasting our time waiting for him," the club's Vice-Chairman Geoffrey Nyange 'Kaburu' was quoted as saying.
Okwi renewed his contract to play for Simba for two years towards the end of 2012 and had his monthly salary increased by 50 per cent to 3m/-. Last Wednesday Tunisia's gnet.tn reported that L'Etoile Sportive du Sahel was tracking Okwi for over a year now.
It was reported that Okwi travelled to Tunis last week to under go trials with the club. On Friday Okwi wrote in his Facebook page via mobile phone; "Thanks to all u my fans who like my official Facebook page... Your prayers have made me and put me where I am today.. God Bless u all," On Saturday Okwi wrote;
"I know a lot of u might be wondering what's going on with me, but I urge u all to relax. God has prepared something special and great for me and all of u my fans which I will spill in the next few days. Keep checking my page and u never know, u might be the first to know.
Love u all. Cheers. God bless u all." Simba are currently in Muscat, Oman, where they have pitched a two-week cap to prepare for the final round of the Mainland Premier League, which kicks off on January 26.
They left for the Middle East in two batches, the first jetting off on Thursday and the second group joined the team early this week. Meanwhile, Simba are expected to play an international friendly match against Oman national team at the Qaboos Sports Complex today.
