Angola: Official Assures Completion of Energy Security Plan

Luanda — Angolan minister of Energy and Water, João Baptista Borges, Tuesday assured that the first phase of the Energy Security Plan may be completed in the third quarter of this year (2013).

João Baptista Borges, who was speaking at the end of the approval in general by the National Assembly of the State Budget for 2013, said the plan in progress will improve the production, transmission and distribution of electricity in the country.

As for the Energy Security Plan the minister said that the Electricity Distribution Company (EDEL) and the National Electricity Company (ENE) are working to investment in prepayment method of energy.

These activities, he said, will lead to a sharp drop in trade losses in the sector, adding that this will allow the development of a new tariff model that will generate profit for the State, the companies of the sector and consumers.

On the other hand, the minister acknowledged the poor supply of power recorded currently in the sector, despite efforts to improve the product.
