Liberia: Money Palaver in Grand Gedeh

Grand Gedeh County Superintendent Peter Solo, has accused a lawmaker of the county Representative Alex Chersia Grant of demanding US$10.000 as credit from the County Development Fund for Grand Gedeh during the annual agriculture break. Supt. Solo said because he objected to the lawmaker's request, it has brought serious bitter pills between him and Rep. Grant.

He claimed that the District #3 representative has taken his (Peter Solo) name to the media that he misappropriated the county development fund for the county. Solo claimed Grand accused him of forming a company that will receive all of the local contracts in the county.

"He sounds like a novice to accuse me of forming a company to get contracts from the county so I can acquire money from the county development funds; he is less busy to say that; why will he say I am responsible for the misappropriation of the county development fund that is not under my direct supervision," Superintendent Solo asked in apparent anger.

He said the lawmaker needs to read the budget laws with comprehension before making requests for any money from the county fund. When this paper contacted Representative Grant for comment on the allegations, he told our reporter he would reserve all comments for now.
