Tunisia: NCA Speaker Meets With Mahmoud Abbas

Bardo — National Constituent Assembly (NCA) Speaker Mustapha Ben Jaafar conferred on Tuesday with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, according to an NCA press release.

During the meeting, Mr. Ben Jaafar said the Palestinian national unity is the only way to make peace negotiations a success and ease talks on the Palestinian cause internationally.

Palestine's bid to the status of non-member observer State in the United Nations has given a new hope for peace and justice, he added, reiterating Tunisia's support to the Palestinian just cause.

President Abbas gave an overview of the latest developments on the Palestinian scene, namely the Palestinian national reconciliation, saying "this is a popular demand to put an end to Palestinian schism in the national interest," reads the same statement.

President Abbas reasserted, in this context, the full readiness of the Palestinian national authority to go to the polls by organising free and fair elections that will allow Palestinians to choose their representatives.

He commended Tunisia's continuing support to the Palestinian cause.
