Nigeria: Electricity Union Urges Support for Power Reform

The President General of the Senior Staff Association of Electricity and Allied Companies (SSAEAC) Comrade Bede Opara has urged workers in the power sector to support federal government power sector reform.

He said the support was necessary in order to ensure that Nigerians enjoy government's plans of constant electricity supply in the country.

Opara spoke at SSAEAC's first triennial delegates' conference/branch election in Lagos.

He said: "We enjoin all workers in the power sector to put in their best to support the federal government power sector reform to ensure that Nigerians enjoy government's projected plans of constant electricity supply in the country.

"Government cannot afford to allow detractors in the power sector delay the implementation of the agreement reached with the workers' leaders last year because of the much efforts put into the negotiations by the government to ensure a peaceful transformation process by the negotiation team.

"We expect the implementation of the agreement reached with us to begin this week."
