NEHAWU in the Limpopo province welcomes the news of the resignation of the Limpopo department of Roads and Transportation head, Mr Ntau Letebele. This is a welcome development and is long overdue.
Our union though, wants to make it clear that we still expect Mr Letebele to account for unlawfully and improperly awarding a multimillion rand tender to On-Point Engineering Company as reported by the Public Protector, Thuli Madonsela in her report last year. The report also implicated Mr Julius Malema, who is alleged to have improperly benefited from that particular government contract.
The Public Protector’s report was deeply disturbing and we expect the law enforcement agencies to get to the bottom of the allegations that have been made against some department officials. All those responsible should be held accountable and sent to jail. These reckless activities and gross financial mismanagement left the people of Limpopo struggling and cost the treasury millions.
Mr Letebele owes the people of Limpopo answers about the looting of the department by the politically connected tenderpreneurs under his watch. We will not rest until all the thieves who are stealing from the poor and sabotaging service delivery in the province are thrown in jail. We are unwavering in our commitment to serve the working class with devotion and reliability. Our anti-corruption campaign will intensify this year and we remain resolute in our determination to root out corruption in public service.
