South Africa: Condemning the Refusal of Police to Grant Bail to Farmworkers Who Were Detained

Overberg — This morning Mr Henry Michaels (Chairperson on Mawubuye Land Rights Movement), Mr Paul De Wet, Mr Kerneels Jambu and one other, who were arrested yesterday appeared before the court in Swellendam. They were denied bail for the charge of public violence and will have to remain in jail until Monday, 21 January 2013, when they will appear before the Court again.

We as TCOE and Mawubuye condemn the refusal of the Court to grant these individuals bail. We ask for your support and solidarity for these farmworkers.
