Tunisia: EU Commitment to Support Nation's Economic Development Process

Carthage — Council of Europe president Herman Van Rompuy expressed on Tuesday confidence in Tunisia's capacity to achieve this transitional stage with success, draft a consensual constitution and hold democratic and transparent elections, in such a way as to make it a model of democratic change in the region.

At his meeting with Caretaker President Moncef Marzouki, he reaffirmed the support of the European Union to Tunisia's democratic transition and economic development process which, he said "is presently facing numerous challenges."

Marzouki stressed in turn the need to strengthen Tunisian-European relations and set up all the necessary mechanisms to establish actual economic partnership.
