Tunisia: Nation Could Play 'Role of Middleman' in Sudanese Crisis - Sudanese FM

Tunis — Sudanese Foreign Minister Ahmed Kourti handed over to Caretaker President Mohamed Moncef Marzouki a written message of President Omar El-Bechir, in which the latter speaks about the development of the situation on the borders with Southern Sudan and the nature of conflict which is concentrated in the regions of South-Kardafan and Blue Nile.

During his meeting, Wednesday with Mr. Marzouki, Mr. Ahmed Kourti estimated that the signing recently of an agreement between President El-Bechir and Southern Sudan President Salva Kiir, had been "an important step" on the path of resolving differences between the two countries, which, he added, should remain within an African framework.

He asserted that Tunisia could play "the role of a middleman between Northern and Southern Sudan and contribute to find a solution to the disagreements threatening security and stability in both countries."

Besides, the meeting was an occasion to discuss bilateral relations and means to develop them.
