Tanzania: Six Children Return After Heart Surgeries in India

A GROUP of children with their escorts and one nurse returned yesterday after expert investigations, treatment and successful heart surgeries in India.

The trip to India was sponsored by Lions Club of Dar es Salaam in collaboration with Regency Medical Centre, Ministry of Health - Zanzibar, Satya Sai Society of Dar es Salaam, Satya Sai Heart Institute - Rajkot, Narayana Hrudayalaya Heart Hospital and Fortis Escort Heart Hospital, New Delhi.

A statement issued by the Convener of Open Heart Surgery Project of Lions District Dr Rajni Kanabar said that out of 37 heart patients who left for 'new lease of life' on November 23, last year, six arrived.

"One of the youngest children in the batch is 11 month-old Khalid Abdulhakim Abeid Abeid, who had congenital heart disease and is returning after expert surgery.

"The last batch will be arriving before end of this week from Narayana Hrudayalaya Heart Institute, Bangalore," said Dr Kanabar. He thanked over 34 individuals, institutions and companies that facilitated the trip and treatment of the patients.
