The Puntland military on Thursday (January 3rd) repelled an attack by al-Shabaab near Bosaso, killing three militants and wounding five others, according to a press release from the Puntland government.

The militants raided a remote outpost manned by Puntland soldiers near the Galgala Mountains late at night. One Puntland soldier was also killed in the attack.

Puntland Minister of Security Khalif Isse Mudan warned on Wednesday that al-Shabaab was infiltrating the region, adding that security forces would pursue al-Shabaab elements hiding in the Galgala Mountains.

In a separate incident on Thursday, Puntland forces arrested an al-Shabaab member who was planting a roadside bomb.
