Djiboutian Foreign Minister Mahmoud Ali Youssouf and Japanese Ambassador to Djibouti Atsushi Nishioka presided over a dialogue on bilateral co-operation on Monday (January 14th), Djibouti's La Nation reported.

Representatives from both countries were present at the meeting, which took place in the ministry building. Discussion focused on the multi-sector Djibouti 2035 development goals.

"The Japanese government has over the years demonstrated its unwavering support to the economic development of our country," Youssouf said, adding that Japan has helped Djibouti in regards to water, agriculture, health and professional development.

The Japanese representatives announced that they would be setting new, higher standards for projects launched with Japanese funds in order to further enhance Djibouti's development. Nishioka also underlined Japan's commitment to use its troops in Djibouti to help fight piracy off the coast.
