Somalia: Somali Defence Minister Visits Baidoa

Somali Defence Minister Abdihakim Haji Mohamud Fiqi met with local elders in Baidoa on Wednesday (January 2nd) to discuss prevention of al-Shabaab attacks, UN-funded Radio Bar-Kulan reported.

Somali army General Abdikadir Sheikh Ali Dini, who accompanied Fiqi, pledged to restore total security to the city and eliminate al-Shabaab forces in the region. He urged youth to refrain from committing acts of violence and instead take part in rebuilding the country.

Fiqi praised the high level of security in Baidoa streets and recent gains made by allied forces in the region against al-Shabaab, the Somali National News Agency reported. During his visit, Fiqi plans to evaluate the living conditions of Baidoa residents and security forces based in the area.
