The Transitional Puntland Election Commission (TPEC) held a workshop in Garowe on Saturday (January 5th) for the region's six registered political parties, Somalia's Garowe Online reported.
The parties must each register at least 300 voters in each of Puntland's 21 districts and open regional offices in order to compete in 2013 local elections, according to TPEC official Ahmed Mohamed Dubays.
"The six registered political associations are expected to fulfil the remaining requirements prior to February 10, 2013, in completing the second phase of the registration process," said TPEC Chairman Mohamed Hassan Barre.
Puntland opened registration for political parties for the first time in September.
